Shared Stories

This page is devoted to personal stories from my readers—stories from their own lives that they remembered after reading my books.
Reader reflections on Notes from the Past:

"This is a beautiful book. Grandfather Lee in Notes from the Past reminds me of my stern Oklahoma Grandfather, both of the same generation—full of grit and determination."

—Betty Tripp

“A stunning, well-written story that made an impression. It gave me an appreciation of American mining pioneers."

—Beth Carson

Reader Pat Peterson shares a couple remembrances of her own from reading Growing Up on Concord:

On George Vesey's Neighborhood Convenience store (page 137):

“I was sent to this store from my home on Pine St. by my mom to buy a loaf of bread. She gave me a dime and asked for the change. When I gave her the bread I told her there is was no change. ‘What!’ she exclaimed. ‘Bread for 10 cents!’”

On Glenn Miller (page 208):

“Glenn Miller played with his band at the University of Colorado in the early 1940s. Many years later there was a film made, the Glenn Miller Story with James Stewart and June Allyson starring in leading roles about his time at CU. One of my classmates who had attended Boulder High School was chosen for a walk-in role in that movie.”
